Roger joins Pragma Strategy as CEO – Australia, aligned with the Commercial Strategy Operating plan to lead, develop and manage senior level relationships with Pragma’s existing clients in Australia and increase network endpoints across banks, finance companies, large corporates and regulators.
Prior to Pragma, Roger managed the expansion of NS8, a real-time fraud protection platform in Australia and New Zealand. He followed this with a brief tenure focusing on rolling out 3D SaaS solutions, augmented reality, human holograms, 3D spatial mapping and CAD to 3D technology for Canadian-based Nextech Technologies.
Roger transitioned to the internet sector in the late 90’s, successfully leading Australia’s very first unicorn IT listing on the ASX. Before working in technology, Roger led a multi-decade career growing businesses, both private and public, spanning the globe and several industries.
Early in his career, Roger focused on funds management (NZ Life), share trading (Gresham Securities), merchant banking (D&I Bank Malaysia) and asset-backed securities financing (Richard Ellis International, now CBRE).
As you take up this new role, what will be your focus for Pragma Australia?
Roger: My primary focus as CEO – Australia will be to service Pragma’s existing clients and build a solid consultancy client base in Australia. I look forward to partnering in safeguarding the businesses of our clients.
What are the latest cybersecurity/regulatory risk trends in Australia?
Roger : New research has shed light on the financial impact of the spike in malicious cyber activity. According to a recent red paper released by global data and analytics company Equifax, Australian firms shed over $33 billion over the 2020-21 financial year as a result of a relentless spate of cyber attacks. Australian companies need to be aware that malicious cyber activity is a continued threat and will continue to impact Australian organisations.
Moreover, in light of the heightened threat environment due to the current situation in Ukraine, the alert status for Australian organisations has been elevated to HIGH. This advice follows the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s strong recommendation to urgently adopt and enhance cybersecurity positions, and that organisations should act now in preparing mitigation strategies as a baseline to make it harder to compromise systems.
What can current and future Australian clients expect to see from Pragma Australia that is different from its competitors?
Roger : A boutique professional service that is customised and agile, unlike selective competitors of which there are nearly 350 in Australia, Pragma will continue to roll-out innovative solutions designed for specific key industries in Australia. The forecasted annual spend on cyber security in Australia is expected to exceed $7.6 billion by 2024.
